This post is part three of a
four part review of HealthFrame's recently introduced support for Office Open XML - a standard format for office documents. In this post we address how HealthFrame can now be used to import clinical information edited with a word processor into your personal health record. You will need to install a new OpenHealth Service (OHS) plug-in and to use new Office Open XML document templates.
In order to use this plug-in, your PC you will need access to an Office Open XML-compliant office suite such as Microsoft Office 2007 and WordPerfect Office, which additionally supports a feature known as
custom XML.
We have published in our
OHS plug-ins service directory a new OpenHealth (OHS)
plug-in that 'reads' word processing documents to extract your continuity of care record information.
Here are some of the benefits of this new feature:
- You can edit your health data from any platform where you have compatible office suites that support custom XML editing
- These are actual Office documents that you can interact with, including changing the formatting of the report layout, copying and pasting into other documents, etc
- We can create new templates based on user feedback, adding to the list of built-in lab results panels. For instance, the first published sample of an Open XML template is a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, based on a request from a HealthFrame user - Thanks, Robert!
- Healthcare providers can create common forms using Office Open XML, such as registration, lab results, discharge notes, etc and HealthFrame users will be able to import data directly into their personal health record without retyping any of the data, by simply dragging and dropping onto HealthFrame.
Here are the steps you need to take to start using this feature:
- Import the OHS plug-in
- Download the Office Open XML template of your choice and install in your word processor's library of templates
- Create and save a new document using your selected template (see image below)
- Drag and drop the .docx document over HealthFrame (or File / Import...)
We look forward to your ideas for new templates that we can customize to support CCR data entry. If you have new lab panels you'd like to see added to HealthFrame please simply use your Office Open XML-compliant word processor and post an entry in this forum with the attached document. Our support staff will work to map those lab panels into HealthFrame-readable templates.
Thanks for your feedback!
