    Linking Files by URL

    Two questions here:

    1. Any chance of putting in a drop down box to select either file:/// or http://INSERT.LINK.HERE?
    2. How about being able to navigate to a file rather than having to type the entire path into the box?

    Thanks again!!! Smile [:)]

    Re: Linking Files by URL

    Hi, Esther!

I seem to remember another recent post to the forum requesting this very same feature improvement.

This is definitely an area of usability improvement we should be addressing in a new release.

    Thanks,  Smile [:)]

    Re: Linking Files by URL

I was just working off-line. . .scanning documents and then linking them to visits. It hasn't occurred to me before now that I cannot open a file/link unless I am connected to the internet. Other than attaching a file, is there any other options that can be had?

    Many thanks,

    Esther

    Re: Linking Files by URL

    Esther,

I tried reproducing the behavior you indicated and I was unable to.  Here is what I did:
    • I created a link to a file in my hard disk (file://c:/image.gif)
    • I disconnected from the internet - I verified that my browser was unable to access any web pages
    • I exited HealthFrame (to make sure the information wasn't cached)
    • I re-started HealthFrame and clicked on the link I saved.  The file opened fine...
    Can you please verify:
    1. Are you still having the same problem when you are disconnected from the internet?
    2. Can you access your links when you are connected?
    3. Can you send us a sample link you are using (e.g. file://c:/image.gif)?
    4. You mentioned a scanned file - is it possible that you are linking to an html file, which in turn redirects you to an internet location?
    Thank you,

    Re: Linking Files by URL

Just a quick response for now. . .I had turned my modem completely off when I was having this issue. I will try it again later today and give a more complete response!

    Thanks!

    Re: Linking Files by URL

    Esther,

Thanks for the note.  We'll continue trying to reproduce the issue.

It's possible that there is some logic around the use of URLs for local links that may cause problems if you are disconnected, but we haven't been able to reproduce this yet.

Please let us know if you see the problem again.

    Thanks for your patience,
