    Status of Medication

It appears that many EHRs and PHRs are no longer using the first <statusCode under <substanceAdministration to note if a medication is Active or not.  For instance, HealthFrame and MS HealthVault both use this method.  Although, MS HealthVault has an issue with correctly noting the status of a medication and when I pointed this out this week, they acknowledged the problem and suggested that I not rely on this <statusCode as it will be removed in the next release.

The CCD standard has a defined Element called “Status of Medication” to show the status of a medication.  This element is 8.20 in Version 2.3 of the “HITSP Summary Documents Using HL7 Continuity of Care Document (CCD) Component” document.  This element is listed as an R2 requirement (Required if known) and shall be included if the value is known

It is requested that CCD export report be changed to include element 8.20 in HealthFrame V3.

    CCD Import Capability

Provide the option to import CCD documents from other EHR and PHR systems.

Now that the Continuity of Care Record (CCR) has been added to the HL7’s CDA, some PHR and EHR systems are electing to support only the CCD format.  For HealthFrame to maintain its interoperability with these systems, the ability to import CCD documents is highly desirable.
